Last night’s Westminster Skeptics talk by Frank Swain, the Science Punk, offering ‘A critique of skepticism’. It was interesting stuff – and you can hear it in full here (aside from 3 minutes removed for legal reasons). Also features Councillor John Dixon.
Westminster Skeptics – Brooke Magnanti
Dr Brooke Magnanti, otherwise known as blogger Belle de Jour gave last night’s talk. Before becoming well-known for her blogging, Dr Brooke Magnanti worked in forensic macrobioinformaics research at the University of Sheffield. She is currently based in Bristol, specialising in developmental neurotoxicology and childhood cancer aetiology. Last night she spoke about the construction of identity.
The sound is a bit ropey for the first five minutes or so, but then dramatically improves.

The Libel Reform Campaign is hosting the official “Free Speech Hustings” of the General Election 2010 in association with English PEN, Index on Censorship and Sense About Science. Speaking at the event will be Dominic Grieve from the Conservatives, Evan Harris from the Liberal Democrats and Michael Wills from the Labour Party who will go head to head over libel law reform and protecting our freedom of speech.
